Just as marble is formed under intense pressure deep underground, so too are the communities we depict. These statues mark people, communities, and moments of today. We build them to outlive us — embodiments of the now, relics of the future.
ABOUT
Queer Monuments is a sculptural installation series that consecrates queer leaders in communities by erecting marble busts in their likenesses. Select individuals are represented as classical statues that appear at sites of queer joy, sorrow, or resilience.
First, the statues are unveiled in their community.
Next, they are presented to the general public.
